IWAA meeting and WODAN workshop in the Discovery Programme.

On the 17th of November 2009 the Irish Wood Anatomists Association (IWAA) met in the Discovery Programme offices, the morning concluded the normal business of the IWAA and then lunch was taken in the nearby Cellar restaurant. Aside from an opportunity to socialise with the IT side of the database creation this meal was also a signalling of the end of the project and a thank you to the generosity of the IWAA members in the creation of the WODAN database. The afternoon was dedicated to demonstrating the most up to date version of the database and starting to instruct the eventual end-users in its functioning. Although the database was not yet fully functioning online the members were presented with recording sheets and reference sheets to use while undertaking charcoal analysis that would allow the easiest entry into the database at a later date. In particular this included templates for both the Ludemann/Nelle curvature and the Marguerie curvature as well as pictorial memory aids for various data-entry coding on wood features. Finally the IWAA meeting discussed members’ identification issues and a highly successful combined meeting and workshop wound down.
