Otto Brinkkemper

Otto Brinkkemper studied Biology at the Universiteit van Amsterdam and graduated in 1986. He obtained his PhD at Leiden University in 1993 in the faculty of Archaeology following a grant by the Dutch organization for scientific research (NWO). He was one of the founders of BIAX Consult in 1994. In the same year, he was appointed as part-time scientific researcher in archaeobotany at the State Service for Archaeology (ROB, now RACM), later as full-time senior researcher. He maintains the Dutch database for botanical macroremains RADAR.

Otto was involved in the large Dutch infrastructural project Betuweroute from 1995-2003 and project leader from 2005-2008 in a project to use cultural history and palaeoecology in a nature development project (see www.miedenproject.nl). He publishes about cultural landscapes and agricultural economies in the past.Otto was a committee member of the Association of Environmental Archaeology (1998-2001). He is treasurer of the Dutch Palynological Society since 2005
